HOW AND WHEN TO CHOOSE A KITCHEN WITH ISLAND?

How and when to choose a kitchen with island

The kitchen with island is becoming increasing popular amongst modern style kitchens as well as others.
This configuration in fact has the advantage of being highly flexible in terms of design: the island becomes the operational and visual centrepiece of the room and the rest of the space,  unlike in a kitchen with peninsula, is developed around it through the use of columns and base units with wall units (but kitchens without wall units are also possible).
The island is suitable for use both as a surface for the preparation of food and for eating quick meals. Important: the island cannot replace a real table because comfort and social interaction would be sacrificed.

So in which situations is it better to opt for a kitchen with island?

1. If you don’t want to forego social interaction when cooking

2. If your living area is an open space

3. If you are looking for flexibility and customisation of space

1. The kitchen with island is ideal if you don’t want to forego social interaction when cooking

In the traditional linear kitchen, the person occupied with preparing the meal have their back to whoever else is in the room. Not so with the kitchen with island because the additional worktop space, positioned centrally, allows interaction with guests sitting in the living room without interrupting work.
This naturally increases sociality, creating harmonious interaction between operational functions and leisure and relaxation spaces.
It is also the ideal solution for those wanting to watch television while they are working in the kitchen.

2. The kitchen with island is ideal if your living area is an open space

A kitchen with central island is particularly suited to open space environments as it provides a high degree of functionality and operational division of space.
What’s more, the addition of a central island increases worktop and storage space. The island can house additional cabinets and drawers as well as provide an additional worktop for food preparation, hob or possible appliances.
An island is not however suitable for confined spaces: it would end up completely filling the space and as a result would not enable you to move around freely.

3. The kitchen with island is ideal if you are looking for flexibility and customisation of space

Normally positioned in the centre of the room, an island allows space to be highly customised and provides flexibility in terms of arrangement: it can serve as a hob, worktop, washing area or simply as a table. The space underneath can be fitted out with storage units and deep drawers to make full use of the element. The possibilities are endless and you get to choose the configuration best suited to your tastes, needs and your rooms.
